Homeless On Motorcycles
Just a few days ago Sash and I put our pickup truck into storage, making our motorcycles our only mode of transportation.
Having only the limited space that a motorcycle can offer brings out the creative side in you at packing efficiently and maximizing space. It also makes you think hard about the things you absolutely must have and that which you can without.
Even after storing our pickup truck away, we found we still had too much stuff on our bikes and had to get rid of a few more things.
We haven't yet embarked on our 6-month road trip, but we're living it already. We still have some business we're finishing up in San Diego, which should be complete by the latter part of this month. We've actually taken on a couple more clients which we feel we can service on the road.
And that's really what Road Pickle is all about.
We can run a business on the road, earning a living through our laptops and smartphones. Internet marketing, blogging, and publishing makes this possible to do. Sash and I run a business that teaches people how to do all this. Road Pickle is our way of demonstrating it.
I often wonder why I even bother to keep stuff. I mean, I've put something away into a box and then put the box into a garage, only to rediscover it 5 years later and then throw it away. If I haven't been using it all this time, then I won't miss it. That caused me to look at everything I have and decide what I absolutely need each day, versus what I rarely use.
What I found is that the things I kept are those that let me express myself. My laptop, my smartphone, and my motorcycle, are key. But even the razor I use to trim my goatee is a tool for expression. For Sash, her clothes, shoes, and cosmetics, are her primary way to express, which interestingly this motorcycle trip is severely limiting her.
But it has actually forced her to be more creative. She has found clothes that are highly versatile and mix and match with many others. She's found clothes that accentuates her personality instead of creating it.
Perhaps when our road trip is complete she and I will discover that we've been hiding behind too much stuff, that we've allowed the material things to define us as opposed to us defining ourselves.
It feels like a rebirth.
Bon voyage Steve and Sash. Looking forward to tracking with you. Love the idea of making a living on the road and learning from you your insider tips.
