Eureka Springs, AR: The Cathouse Lounge
Alex is a slender blonde haired bartender at the Cathouse Lounge in Eureka Springs, AR, who refers to her breasts as "marketing materials". But she's not just a pretty face. The popular mixologist is probably the most hardest working in the industry, while still maintaining her southern charm and hospitality.
"This is my gym", she said, when asked about her slender, athletic figure. "I work out all day and night here, running back and forth, up and down stairs, carrying ice."
And when it gets busy, she puts that muscular body to task, keeping everyone well attended.
Having been in business since 2001, the Cathouse is the drinking half of the Pied Piper Inn, a popular bed & breakfast. But it's mostly known as a biker bar, and on weekends, its parking lot swells with Harleys coming in from a hundred miles around.
"The Reuben Sandwich and the Fish & Chips is what we're known for", Alex went on to suggest. "And our burgers are pretty good too."
But Sash and I already had enough to eat after spending the afternoon in Eureka Springs. We were at the Cathouse for drinks and merriment. Even though there wasn't a live band playing last night when we went, the folks at the bar were entertaining enough with their stories and jokes.
Gary & Sherry is a couple from Dallas vacationing here on their motorcycle. The two having been through divorces of their own and having raised kids, are now happily in love and making plans to tie the knot. Somehow, the two seemed to parallel Sash and I with our past lives. Where they had once lived mostly vanilla lives, are now ready to unleash themselves.
"I'm not really an exhibitionist", Sherry said, after she and Sash had discussed the subject of outdoor nudity. "Oh yes she is!" Gary chimed in. To which Sherry smiled and explained her recent nude outing at a beach. And after Alex the bartender had already flashed her breasts to us, Sash decided to do the same, giving Gary and few others in the bar something to smile about.
Chelsea and Nina are a couple of young gals from the Fayetteville area. With barely a couple thousand miles of riding experience under their belt, they opted to ride to Eureka Springs to hang out. They each bought Kawasaki Ninja 250s, and are now riding buddies.
"The only time I almost ever dropped a bike was when I was laughing at Nina for dropping hers", Chelsea joked. The two took the MSF course recently together. "Everybody was laughing", Nina responded. "Both my boots were caught under the bike, and then I pulled them out and raised them up in the air and showed everyone I was OK".
The two newbie riders are now riding the Pig Trails together, a series of roads that run through the Ozark National Forest. "You gotta watch out for deer" Nina said. "When they come at you, you just lay down on the tank, and they'll just jump right over you."
Good advice.
Andrew is a regular at Cathouse Lounge. Still active in the Marines, he hangs out at the bar frequently. But last night he almost got into a fight with an out-of-towner who called him a "pussy" and "ignorant" for being in the military. Andrew, maintained composure by saying he had nothing to talk about and proceeded to walk away. The out-of-towner, who was clearly drunk, called him out for walking away, which caused Andrew to walk back, standing up straight and tall as if he was ready to swing.
"I'm so sorry if I offended you!" the out-of-towner started backing off. "I have nothing against you, I just don't like the politics involved." After another 5-minutes of feeling each other out, Andrew settled down. The out-of-towner offered to buy Andrew a drink, to which he accepted.
However, about 10 minutes later, the out-of-towner left the bar without settling his debt.
"I knew Andy would take care of him", Alex the bartender said. "I could have taken him myself, but I always rely on Andy to take care of things".
"I didn't make myself the bouncer here, I just inherited the job", Andrew explained. "It's just something that kind of fell on my lap".
It's never a slow day at the Cathouse Lounge.
